OLED iPad mini may finally land by October

Bloomberg says Apple could launch its first OLED iPad mini by October, while the rest of the iPad lineup is due for refreshes in 2027.

Apple could finally bring an OLED display to the iPad mini as soon as October, according to Bloomberg, giving the company’s smallest tablet its biggest hardware change since the 2021 redesign.

The iPad mini has changed little in recent years. Apple updated it with a newer chip in 2024, but left the design untouched. An OLED panel would be a more meaningful upgrade for users still holding onto older models, though the report notes that rising component costs and recent price increases across Apple devices could make the new version expensive.

The timing would add to a busy stretch for Apple hardware. This fall, the company is already widely expected to introduce a foldable iPhone as part of the iPhone 18 lineup, with new Apple Watch and Mac models also said to be on the way.

Beyond the mini, Bloomberg says Apple plans to refresh the rest of the iPad family in the first half of 2027. The next entry-level iPad is expected to get a spec bump without a major redesign, and could arrive early next year. The next-generation iPad Air is reportedly slated for spring 2027, alongside new iPad Pro and Apple Pencil models.
