OnePlus lists phones and tablets for ColorOS 17

OnePlus is preparing to move its active smartphones and tablets to ColorOS 17, effectively ending the global role of OxygenOS and consolidating updates on a single platform. The company says the change should simplify development, speed up releases, and help it allocate engineering resources more efficiently.

OnePlus has not published a separate compatibility list. Instead, the expected devices were compiled from the current update policies for each product line. The transition is described as voluntary, and appears limited to devices still covered by active support commitments. Older models are unlikely to be included.

The Nord range is a key part of OnePlus' business, combining lower prices with comparatively long product lifecycles. Keeping these devices on the same software platform could reduce the cost and complexity of maintaining separate update paths.

OnePlus tablets on the list

The tablet models expected to receive the update are OnePlus Pad 4, OnePlus Pad 3, OnePlus Pad 2, OnePlus Pad Lite, and OnePlus Pad Go 2.

Long-term software support has become an increasingly important differentiator in the Android tablet market. For OnePlus, including several tablet generations signals that the ColorOS transition is intended to cover more than its flagship smartphone range.

ColorOS also marks another step in the close relationship between OnePlus and Oppo, which have long shared engineering resources and technology. OxygenOS remained formally separate for years, but the differences between the two interfaces have gradually narrowed. OnePlus now appears ready to remove that additional software layer and use one system across its active devices.

The company’s argument is partly practical and partly commercial. Samsung has promised extended update cycles for its flagships and some mid-range models, while Google emphasizes fast delivery of new Android versions. Chinese brands are also increasingly selling the expected software lifespan of a device alongside its hardware.

OnePlus built much of its reputation on quick updates and a relatively clean interface. The success of the ColorOS 17 transition will therefore depend less on the announcement than on whether real devices receive patches and major releases without losing speed or stability. The first meaningful evidence will emerge once the listed models begin receiving the update.
