Samsung creates division for robotics projects
Samsung has launched RX, a robotics division led by former Hyundai strategist Dongkun Lee, with humanoid robot manufacturing planned for this year.

Samsung has created RX, or Robotics eXperience, a dedicated division for all of its robotics projects. Dongkun Lee, who joined the company as an executive vice president in May, will lead its strategy.

Before joining Samsung, Lee led Hyundai’s robotics strategy, including work involving Boston Dynamics. Samsung CEO TM Roh will oversee RX directly.

RX will be based at Samsung’s facilities in Seoul, South Korea. Reuters reports that the company also plans to establish robotics research hubs in the United States, China and Japan to access local expertise.
Samsung’s humanoid robotics plans
The new division puts Samsung among major technology companies pursuing physical AI and robotics. Hyundai recently acquired the remaining stake in Boston Dynamics. In February, Alphabet’s robotics company focused on manufacturing was folded into Google, while OpenAI is developing a series of devices intended to bring ChatGPT into the physical world; the first is believed to be a speaker.
According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Samsung plans to begin manufacturing humanoid robots sometime this year. The company has also said it will invest 19 trillion Korean won ($13 billion) to develop manufacturing facilities at its Gumi, Korea site for producing humanoid robots, CNBC reports.
