BYD has brought a 102.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from its FinDreams division to the new Great Han sedan. The pack promises up to 1,008 km of range under the CLTC test cycle, but its 725.9 kg weight makes the car substantially heavier than the standard version.
The move highlights a straightforward route to longer-range electric cars: increasing battery capacity rather than relying on rare chemistry. The new pack is reserved for higher-end Great Han variants.
Great Han power and range
The rear-wheel-drive version uses a single electric motor rated at 370 kW, or 496 hp. Depending on the configuration, it delivers 970–1,008 km of CLTC range, with a curb weight of 2,260–2,325 kg.
The all-wheel-drive model adds a second motor and raises output to 570 kW, or 764 hp. Its range drops to 820–880 km.

Key specifications include:
- Battery capacity: 102.3 kWh
- Battery weight: 725.9 kg
- RWD output: 370 kW, 496 hp
- AWD output: 570 kW, 764 hp
- RWD range: 970–1,008 km under CLTC
- AWD range: 820–880 km under CLTC
- Dimensions: 5,256 × 1,999 × 1,510 mm
- Wheelbase: 3,130 mm
The Great Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase. BYD says the sedan is 66 mm longer than the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Pricing and competition
The comparison is less about a few extra centimeters than about who can make a large electric sedan appealing at a relatively reasonable price. Tesla Model S Plaid and Xiaomi SU7 Max emphasize power and software, while the Mercedes EQS leans on premium positioning. BYD is combining size, range, and price.
That formula has particular traction in China, where the electric-vehicle market already reaches millions of cars annually, according to industry estimates, and long range remains a major purchase consideration.
The Great Han with the new battery is priced at approximately $44,000. If BYD maintains that price, the sedan occupies a rare position: a large car with a 100 kWh-class battery that no longer looks reserved for wealthy buyers, while challenging significantly more expensive competitors. Its weight also tests how far an LFP battery can go before added mass starts to undermine the benefit of extra capacity.
