Musk orders rare books preserved for AI training

Elon Musk has instructed the SpaceXAI team not to destroy rare books acquired for AI training, following reports that some companies are buying up large collections and shredding the originals after digitization.
The books, published before 2022, are sought because they do not contain AI-generated text. According to the report, companies use high-speed scanning machines that cut off book spines before processing the pages, leaving the physical copies unusable.
Musk said the original books should instead be preserved in a library, with digital versions created through traditional scanning methods that do not damage them.
The ISBNdb service allows buyers to place orders for up to one million books while keeping their identities anonymous.
