iOS 27 finally saves video frames as photos
iOS 27 lets Apple Photos save video frames as separate photos, avoiding the low resolution and awkward cropping of screenshots.

iOS 27 adds a long-requested capability to Apple Photos: saving a still frame from a video as a separate photo. Until now, taking a screenshot was the main option, but screenshots typically produce a lower-resolution image and require manual cropping.
While viewing a video in the Photos app, users can open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select “Save Video Frame as Photo.” Photos saves the frame currently displayed as a new image in the library. The resulting photo should have substantially better resolution than a screenshot, with the iPhone handling the framing automatically.
The iPhone has supported capturing still images while recording video for years, making the absence of a comparable tool for saved videos a notable omission. iOS 27 finally closes that gap.
