CATL’s revenue and profit both increased in the first half of 2026, while many automakers faced operating pressure. Across China’s automotive industry, total profit fell 20% year over year during the period, and sector profitability was below the average for related industries.

Among the automakers, Chery recorded the highest profitability at 6.3%, followed by BYD at 4.1%. Chery entered the ranking this year for the first time as an independent publicly traded company. BYD generated nearly 40% of its total revenue overseas, while its new-energy vehicle sales ranked first globally.
