Terra Innovatum targets Brazilian data centers with microreactors

Terra Innovatum plans up to 8 MW of SOLO microreactor capacity for Brazilian data centers serving DirecTV Latin America and Sky Brasil.

Terra Innovatum Global plans to deploy SOLO microreactors at data-center sites in Jaguaríuna, Brazil, in a project with media group Waiken ILW. The reactors are intended to provide autonomous power for facilities serving DirecTV Latin America and Sky Brasil.

The proposal covers several units with combined output of up to 8 MW. Terra Innovatum rates each SOLO at 1 MW of electrical power and 4 MW of thermal power, and says the modules can be combined into larger systems exceeding 1 GW.

For Terra Innovatum, the project would be its first commercial contract in the region. For Brazil’s digital infrastructure, it could provide a local power source at a time when data centers are facing rising demand and grid connections are becoming more expensive and slower to expand.

Cloud services, streaming video and AI workloads are driving interest in small nuclear systems. Data-center operators need more than additional megawatts: they need predictable power, because interruptions can disrupt server operations. A local microreactor could reduce dependence on the external grid while also supplying heat for industrial applications.

Terra Innovatum lists additional potential uses for SOLO, including water desalination and the production of medical radioisotopes. The reactor is designed to use LEU+ and HALEU fuels—low-enriched uranium variants with higher uranium-235 content than standard low-enriched uranium.

Brazil offers a potentially suitable pilot market, with a large digital-services sector, growing infrastructure demand and interest in local generation. The Jaguaríuna project will show whether the agreement progresses beyond the planning stage and whether microreactors can become a practical part of data-center power systems.

Microreactor competitors targeting data centers

Terra Innovatum is not alone in pursuing this market. Radiant previously agreed to supply 20 microreactors to data-center operator Equinix, while Last Energy announced plans to build 30 reactors in Texas for computing facilities.

For Terra Innovatum, the Brazilian project will test both the SOLO technology and its commercial model. A successful deployment in Jaguaríuna would give the company a stronger position against rivals offering data centers an alternative to waiting years for new transmission infrastructure.
