Samsung enters smart glasses with Gemini and Android XR

Samsung is entering smart glasses with a deliberately familiar design: a conventional-looking frame rather than an AR headset. At Galaxy Unpacked in London, the company showed glasses running Android XR and Gemini that could pass for a retail accessory instead of a laboratory prototype. Samsung’s Android XR smart glasses

Samsung is positioning the glasses as more than a camera mounted in a frame. They are intended to act as a wearable AI interface that can:

Gentle Monster and Warby Parker designs

Samsung is also emphasizing wearability. The Gentle Monster version has a slim black frame with a straight upper edge, while the Warby Parker model uses a brown frame with a slightly raised brow line. Samsung says it worked with both partners to improve the fit around the nose and ears, so the glasses feel less like a heavy AR kit from a demonstration area.

That approach follows Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, which have helped define the category. Consumers appear to want cameras and AI without wearing an obvious mini-computer on their faces. Samsung is taking a similar route, but with Android XR and Gemini, tying the glasses to Google’s ecosystem.

Samsung has not announced pricing or a release date. The product’s practical appeal will depend heavily on whether its claimed battery life and fit hold up in everyday use. For Android XR, the launch also gives the platform a chance to look like an ongoing product ecosystem rather than a one-off demonstration.
