Sputniks makes nanosatellite data 10 times faster

Sputniks raised nanosatellite data speeds tenfold to 100 Mbps with a software update for the SXC-XTX-01 transmitter.

Sputniks has increased data-transfer speeds from orbit tenfold by updating the transmitter software on its nanosatellites. During testing, the system reached up to 100 Mbps without any hardware replacement.

The update is designed for the SXC-XTX-01 transmitter and can be deployed on satellites already in orbit. That is particularly useful for small spacecraft, where adding even a single gram or module can affect the launch budget and schedule. The software is intended for 3U and 6U CubeSats, which are commonly used in scientific, educational, and AIS projects whose data volumes continue to grow.

Sputniks said the system operated stably during testing and transmitted data from a test spacecraft. The company’s existing Zorkiy-2M constellation reaches communication speeds of up to 1 Gbps and can downlink up to 100 GB of data per day.

The new software therefore serves as an upgrade for the company’s mass-market segment rather than a replacement for its higher-end platform. It offers a way to improve the capabilities of smaller satellites without changing their onboard hardware.
