The Series B, announced July 30, was led by Greenoaks. Existing backer Index Ventures, which led Simile’s $100 million Series A five months ago, also participated alongside *Hanabi, Bain Capital Ventures, A, Factory, Definition, and CVS Health Ventures**. CVS is one of Simile’s marquee customers.

How Simile’s synthetic users work

The startup develops simulated users for marketing and product research. Rather than surveying or testing with a conventional human panel, companies can use modeled users to evaluate product concepts and marketing ideas. The source does not provide technical details about how Simile builds its simulations, how they are validated against real users, or how customers use the system in practice.

Why AI keeps putting “co” in its product names

Simile was founded by Joon Sung Park, a Stanford PhD graduate. His dissertation included “Smallville,” a project in which AI agents carried out simulated human lives, including holding parties. That work provides the conceptual basis for Simile’s attempt to model people as research subjects.

“All eight billion people on earth, accurately and honestly”

Simile’s stated mission

The ambition is also the company’s central unresolved challenge. Market research exists partly because people are difficult to predict: their decisions combine emotions and reason, and simulated behavior may not reproduce that complexity. Still, synthetic users are emerging as a practical way to test product mock-ups and marketing concepts before putting them in front of real customers.

Simile is not alone in attracting venture capital for this approach. Aaru, another startup in the category, raised a Series A in December at a reported “headline” valuation of $1 billion. Simile’s latest financing puts its valuation at twice that figure, though the company did not disclose additional product details or a release timeline.
