Galaxy Z Fold8 nearly hides its display crease

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 appears to be closing in on one of foldable phones' longest-running weaknesses: the crease in its flexible display is reportedly becoming almost invisible and may not worsen significantly over time.

Insider Ice Universe posted side-by-side images of the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Fold8, Oppo Find N6, and Vivo X Fold6. In the comparison, Samsung’s new model appears more refined around the hinge. Ice Universe also said the crease became less noticeable after the phone remained unfolded for several minutes.

The insider further claimed that the crease on a test unit had changed very little over approximately three months. That would be a meaningful improvement for foldables, where the display crease can reveal a device’s age before its battery does.

Galaxy Z Fold8 compared with competitors

According to Ice Universe, the Fold8's hinge distributes stress across the display more effectively, reducing deformation around the folding area. He separately noted that leaving the phone unfolded for an extended period can make the crease less visible, suggesting that the panel partially returns to a flatter state.

Samsung has released its Fold series since 2019, with each generation aiming to conceal the folding mark more effectively. No major manufacturer has eliminated it completely. Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and Huawei have continued to show thinner designs and smoother hinges, but the crease remains one of the first things users examine—not the megapixel count.

There is an important limitation to the claim: this is not a Samsung laboratory report, but an observation based on a single device held by someone connected to the company. It offers an early signal, not mass reliability data. That evidence will only emerge after the Fold8 goes on sale and thousands of phones enter everyday use.

Samsung’s foldable hinge strategy

For Samsung, the change would be more than cosmetic. The Fold line remains an expensive niche, and buyers are paying not just for the form factor but for the expectation that the device will withstand ordinary use better than earlier models.

If the Fold8 genuinely reduces the crease without increasing wear, Samsung would have a clear argument against Oppo and Vivo, which have also made folding marks less visible but have not yet turned that improvement into a decisive advantage. A hinge that keeps the crease from worsening for months could become one of the central stories around the Fold8, alongside the usual promises of durability, battery life, and cameras.
