American Airlines has joined the growing list of carriers supporting Apple’s redesigned iOS 26 boarding pass support, bringing richer flight details and quicker access to Wallet-based travel tools. The airline’s latest app update points to a steadier shift across the industry: Apple is turning boarding passes into mini travel dashboards, and airlines are deciding whether to lean in or fall back to their own systems.
That makes American Airlines one of the early adopters after Apple first previewed the feature at WWDC 2025. The update adds a new boarding pass layout with Apple Maps, destination guides, and shortcuts back into the airline app, while also keeping luggage tracking and Find My access within reach. Live Activities support was part of Apple’s pitch, though it is not mentioned in American Airlines’ release notes.
What American Airlines added to the iOS 26 boarding pass
The revised pass is less about a prettier card and more about reducing the tap marathon travelers usually face at the gate, baggage carousel, and terminal. According to the app’s release notes, users can see more travel info at a glance, jump to maps and destination guides, and open the airline app directly from the pass.

Apple’s airline rollout keeps widening
American Airlines follows United Airlines and Southwest Airlines, both of which have already rolled out support. Apple also said other major carriers, including JetBlue, Lufthansa, Qantas, and Virgin Australia, are expected to add the feature. That leaves Delta Air Lines as the outlier for now, after it dropped support for Apple’s boarding pass system and went back to its older setup.
There’s a practical reason airlines keep circling back to Wallet: once passengers are already using their phones to navigate airports, track bags, and watch flight updates, the boarding pass becomes a front door rather than a dead end. The only open question is whether Live Activities will show up in American Airlines’ version soon, or whether this rollout stops at the lighter-weight features already listed in the app update.
