Graphite One advances Ohio battery-materials plant
Graphite One won Ohio approval to begin technical review of a plant targeting 25,000 tons of battery anode material annually.

Graphite One has received approval from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to move its application for a future anode-material plant into technical review. The facility is designed to produce anode active material (AAM) for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and energy-storage systems.
The company plans to begin with about 10,000 tons of synthetic AAM per year, eventually expanding output to 25,000 tons annually. Acceptance into technical review means the regulator has confirmed that the application contains the data needed for a detailed assessment as part of the permitting process.
Graphite One’s US supply-chain plans
The Ohio plant is part of Graphite One’s plan to build what it describes as the first fully integrated graphite supply chain in the United States, spanning raw-material extraction through finished battery materials. The company is developing the facility separately from its major Graphite Creek mining project in Alaska, which it says could enable faster progress toward production.
Graphite Creek is intended to supply natural graphite for battery-material production in Ohio. Graphite One expects synthetic AAM production at the Ohio plant to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027. Mining in Alaska is scheduled to start in 2029, subject to the required permits, financing, and other regulatory approvals.

The company says the project is intended to reduce US dependence on overseas supplies of graphite and battery materials. It is continuing engineering work, equipment procurement, financing efforts, and talks with potential customers.
Graphite Creek has also received high-priority infrastructure project status under the federal FAST-41 program, along with support from the US Department of Defense.
