Apple has reportedly significantly increased its orders for vapor chambers, a sign that the cooling system may be headed for a broader role in upcoming iPhones.

According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the increase is “possibly in preparation for enhanced cooling in its first foldable iPhone and the next-generation 20th-anniversary model.” The report ties the move to Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone and a 2027 anniversary device, though the timeline could also fit products arriving sooner.

Apple first brought vapor chamber cooling to the iPhone 17 Pro, a shift meant to address thermal issues seen in earlier models. The system works by evaporating a small amount of liquid near a heat source, moving that heat to cooler areas, then condensing the liquid so the cycle can repeat.

The new supply claim lines up with other recent production rumors. Apple has reportedly asked suppliers to prepare about 10 million foldable iPhones, up from an earlier estimate of 7 million to 8 million, along with roughly 70 million iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units. The report suggests all three models could use vapor chamber cooling.

That increase also follows reports that Apple has resolved earlier hinge and manufacturing-yield problems, potentially clearing the way for higher output ahead of a September debut.
