XPPen has unveiled the Artist 16 3rd pen display, aimed at beginner artists and students seeking an affordable, portable, and easy-to-use drawing tablet. It combines solid color accuracy with upgraded customizable controls to enhance the creative workflow.

The device features the upgraded X-Dial Shortcut system, which includes two rotary dials and eight customizable shortcut buttons. This setup lets you zoom, undo, resize brushes, and more-all without reaching for the keyboard.

The Artist 16 3rd sports a 15.4-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It covers 99% of sRGB, 98% Adobe RGB, and 97% Display P3 color spaces, delivering highly accurate colors with a Delta E under 1.5. This makes it well-suited for tasks requiring precise color reproduction.

Its screen features anti-glare (AG) and anti-fingerprint (AF) nano-etched glass that reduces reflections and smudges while simulating the feel of drawing on paper. Additionally, DC Dimming technology adjusts brightness automatically to reduce eye strain during long creative sessions.

Connectivity is streamlined through a single full-featured USB-C cable, facilitating neat and portable setup-a notable advantage compared to some competitors that require multiple cables or adapters.

The included stylus, the X4 Smart Chip pen, offers 16,384 levels of pressure sensitivity with a light activation force of just 2 grams. It features faster response times and reduced lag for smooth, precise strokes. The pen magnetically attaches to the display’s body for convenient storage.

The pen tip travel distance has been reduced to 0.3 mm, bringing the drawing experience closer to that of traditional art tools.

An XPPen representative emphasized that the Artist 16 3rd was designed for intuitive and comfortable use, making it easier for creatives to work efficiently in any environment.

The Artist 16 3rd is available now starting at $320, though prices and availability may vary by region. Pricing across drawing tablet alternatives includes:

  • XPPen Artist 16 3rd: $320 and up
  • Wacom entry-level tablets: typically $400 and above
  • Apple iPad with Apple Pencil (non-pen display): starting around $330
  • Huion and Samsung budget drawing tablets: prices vary but generally in a similar range

While Apple’s and Wacom’s entry-level drawing tablets can cost significantly more, XPPen’s Artist 16 3rd targets budget-conscious creatives without sacrificing key features like color accuracy and customizable controls. Samsung and Huion also offer alternatives in this segment, but XPPen’s inclusion of dual dials and extensive color coverage help it stand out.

As the creative tablet market evolves with rising demand for remote work and digital art, accessible yet capable tools like the Artist 16 3rd may gain traction among a new generation of artists searching for portability and precision.
