Xiaomi has brought a new giant fridge to Europe: the Mijia Side-by-Side 621L. The Xiaomi smart fridge costs €849 and is pitched as a family-sized appliance with app controls, voice assistant support, and a price tag that looks aggressive next to similarly sized connected models from older appliance brands.

The pitch is simple enough. Buy the big fridge, connect it to Xiaomi Home, and get temperature checks, cooling-mode switches, and door-open alerts from your phone. That is the kind of feature set that used to feel fancy on a washing machine; now it is table stakes for any company trying to sell the ”smart home” dream without pricing itself into the stratosphere.

Xiaomi smart fridge offers 621 liters

The Mijia Side-by-Side 621L offers 621 liters in total, split into 385 liters for refrigeration and 236 liters for freezing. Xiaomi says the layout includes adjustable shelves and multiple storage zones, which should make it easier to juggle fresh food, drinks, and frozen items without playing Tetris every time you shop.

  • Total capacity: 621 liters
  • Refrigeration space: 385 liters
  • Freezer space: 236 liters
  • Dimensions: 910 x 715 x 1770 mm

Smart controls and quiet operation

Connectivity is the hook here, but Xiaomi also leans on the practical stuff. The fridge works with the Xiaomi Home app, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa, while a No Frost system removes the need for manual defrosting. An Ag+ antibacterial and deodorizing module is included to help reduce odors and slow bacterial growth inside the compartments.

Under the hood, Xiaomi uses an inverter compressor and a multi-airflow cooling system. The company rates noise at 35 dB, which is quiet enough for open-plan kitchens and a useful reminder that premium appliance design is increasingly about being seen less than heard.

Xiaomi pushes deeper into the home

The bigger story is not the fridge itself, but Xiaomi’s steady march from phones into the unglamorous corners of daily life. Refrigerators are a tougher sell than earbuds or watches, yet they are exactly the sort of product that can lock users deeper into a brand’s ecosystem once the first device is already in the house.

At €849, the Mijia Side-by-Side 621L looks aimed at buyers who want capacity first, smart features second, and a familiar ecosystem somewhere in the mix. The open question is whether European shoppers will see it as a bargain from a tech brand, or just another reminder that the best-connected fridge is still a fridge – only now it sends notifications about its own bad manners.
