Starlink has gone live in Ivory Coast, marking another step in the company’s push across Africa. Elon Musk confirmed the launch by reposting a message from the official Starlink account, which showed an Africa map with Ivory Coast added as a new coverage area.

The rollout follows a decision by the country’s authorities in June 2026 to grant the company a 12-month license to provide fixed satellite internet services. The offering is primarily aimed at areas without reliable terrestrial communications infrastructure.

According to the source, the service is expected to help connect rural areas, schools, and medical facilities. That fits Starlink’s broader pitch on the continent, where building traditional telecom networks can be difficult or uneconomical.

With the Ivory Coast launch, Starlink is now available in 28 African countries. The company has been steadily expanding across the region with its low-latency, high-speed satellite internet service.

The debut also comes as Ivory Coast begins rolling out 5G. The country started deploying fifth-generation mobile service in June, with initial coverage focused on the largest cities before expanding gradually to other regions.
