OPPO’s legal team is warning shoppers to stay away from ultra-cheap phone offers that look too good to be true, because many of them are exactly that. The company says it has seen bogus accounts on platforms such as Xiaohongshu pushing heavily discounted OPPO Find series phones, then steering buyers off-platform to private transfers where platform protection disappears and the scam starts to work its magic.

How the OPPO phone scam is pitched
According to the company, scammers claim they are tied to JD.com’s self-operated channels and say the deal can be stacked with national subsidies and big platform coupons. To make the pitch feel real, they allegedly use fake JD order screenshots and shipping ”proof” from SF Express, then pressure buyers into adding WeChat contacts or moving to unofficial Douyin shops.
The rest is classic pressure fraud: split payments, bank transfers, requests to avoid platform escrow, and a cheerful suggestion to delete transaction records. After the money lands, the seller allegedly invents excuses such as regional purchase limits or a failed order submission, then demands extra cash with a promise that the original payment will be refunded in 3-7 days. Spoiler: that refund rarely shows up.
Why these phone deals are hard to unwind
OPPO says it has already assisted police in Kunming and Zhengzhou with case filings, and that the scam chain involves cross-border operations. That matters because once a seller pushes payment off-platform, the buyer loses the dispute tools that marketplaces usually provide, and recovery gets much harder. It’s a reminder that ”official channel” is not marketing fluff; it’s the part that keeps a bad deal from becoming an expensive lesson.
Shoppers chasing a bargain are an easy target, especially in phone sales where discounts, subsidies, and coupon stacking are normal enough to lower people’s guard. But abnormal pricing should raise alarms, not enthusiasm. If a flagship phone is being sold far below normal price and the seller is trying to move the chat elsewhere, the offer is probably selling risk, not hardware.
OPPO’s shopping checklist
- Buy through OPPO’s official website or official store.
- Use authorized flagship stores on正规 platforms.
- Choose offline authorized retail stores if you want to see the phone first.
- Avoid any private transaction that leaves platform protection behind.
- Treat unusually low quotes as a warning sign, not a bargain.
The smarter move is also the dullest one: stay on the platform, keep the payment trail visible, and walk away from anyone asking you to ”just add WeChat first.”
