MSI ships RTX 5060 cards with RTX 5070's GB205 GPU

MSI has launched new GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards built around an unusual silicon swap: instead of the standard GB206 used for the RTX 5060, these models use the GB205 GPU that underpins the RTX 5070.
The lineup can be informally treated as GeForce RTX 5060 V1, and it includes the Gaming and Ventus 2X versions. According to the source, the two cards mainly differ in design. Both are otherwise standard, compact RTX 5060 models with dual-fan cooling.

That does not mean buyers are getting hidden RTX 5070-class hardware. The GB205 chip here is, as the source puts it, cut down to the same specification level as GB206, and unlocking disabled parts of the GPU is no longer considered feasible.
In short, MSI’s new cards are still baseline RTX 5060 products in terms of performance and positioning, but they stand out for using a different underlying GPU die than the usual version.
