Apple’s next Pro Max model is shaping up to be a battery brute. According to supply-chain leaks, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will cross the 5000 mAh mark, with the U.S. model going higher than the China variant thanks to Apple’s continued push toward eSIM-only hardware in that market.

The numbers matter because they would push the phone beyond the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which carried 5088 mAh in the U.S. and 4823 mAh in China. In other words, Apple is not just nudging the battery spec upward; it is using the space saved by removing the physical SIM tray to squeeze in more cell capacity.

iPhone 18 Pro Max battery sizes leaked

The reported ranges are simple enough. The China version is said to land between 5000 and 5100 mAh, while the U.S. model is tipped for 5100 to 5200 mAh. If accurate, that would make this the largest battery Apple has ever put in an iPhone, and by a decent margin in the U.S. version.

  • China version: 5000 to 5100 mAh
  • U.S. version: 5100 to 5200 mAh
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max U.S.: 5088 mAh
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max China: 4823 mAh

Why the U.S. model gets more battery

This is the familiar Apple trade-off: remove the SIM tray, gain internal space. The U.S. iPhone already leans fully on eSIM, so Apple can give the battery a little more room to breathe. China’s version keeps the physical SIM slot, which eats into that space and caps how far the battery can grow.

That hardware split has become one of the more visible regional differences in iPhone design, and it is unlikely to be the last. Competitors have been experimenting with bigger batteries, but Apple’s advantage usually comes from squeezing more efficiency out of silicon and software rather than simply chasing giant cells.

September launch and leaked mockups

The phone is still expected to be unveiled in September. Before that happens, tech blogger and leaker Sahil Karoul has already circulated photos and video of real mockups of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in four new colors, which is exactly the sort of pre-launch leak Apple never seems to fully escape.

If this battery rumor holds up, the bigger question is whether Apple pairs it with a noticeable jump in endurance or just uses the extra capacity to offset new display, camera, or modem demands. Either way, the company seems set to make ”battery life” one of the Pro Max’s easiest selling points.
