The iPhone 18 Pro may follow the same regional battery split Apple used on the iPhone 17 Pro, with a smaller cell in China and a larger one in the US. According to a tip from Digital Chat Station, the Chinese version of the iPhone 18 Pro would pack a 4,056mAh battery, while the US model would get a 4,288mAh unit.

The pattern is familiar: iPhone 17 Pro models in China were said to use a 3,988mAh battery, compared with 4,252mAh in the US, where the physical SIM tray is gone and the freed-up room can be used for a larger cell.

iPhone 17 Pro set the template

This is not Apple inventing a new battery strategy so much as repeating an existing one with tiny, measurable gains. The company has been happy to turn the absence of a SIM slot into a packaging advantage in markets where eSIM is the only option, and that creates a subtle but real regional difference that buyers do not always notice until the spec sheets do the talking.

  • China: 4,056mAh battery on iPhone 18 Pro
  • US: 4,288mAh battery on iPhone 18 Pro
  • iPhone 17 Pro precedent: 3,988mAh in China and 4,252mAh in the US

iPhone 18 Pro expected features

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are also expected to land in September with the A20 Pro chipset, a variable-aperture main rear camera, a smaller dynamic island, and new color options. That is a pretty standard Apple upgrade mix on paper: a faster chip, a camera tweak that will sound more dramatic in keynote language than in everyday use, and a design nibble rather than a redesign.

The bigger question is whether Apple keeps leaning on regional hardware differences as the SIM tray disappears from more markets. If the company keeps shaving off internal components for eSIM-only variants, the US may continue to get the neatest engineering dividend – while other regions get the version with the smaller number on the box.
