Huawei adds Direct Power to HarmonyOS 7

Huawei is testing HarmonyOS 7 on 41 phones, adding Direct Power to reduce heat during gaming while charging.

Huawei has started testing HarmonyOS 7 on 41 smartphone models, including the Mate 80, Mate 70, and Pura 90 series. The update’s most prominent new feature is Direct Power, designed to reduce overheating during gaming while the phone remains connected to a charger.

When enabled, the smartphone can draw power directly from the charging adapter while temporarily stopping the battery from charging. That reduces the amount of simultaneous charging and discharging, which in turn lowers heat generation and helps maintain more stable gaming performance.

The feature is initially available on the Huawei Pura 90 series, the base Huawei Pura X Max, and the Huawei nova 16 lineup. Users must update the Game Assistant app to version 16.2.2.300 for Direct Power to work.

Huawei said other supported smartphones will receive the feature later, but it did not specify when those updates will arrive. The company also did not provide figures for the reduction in temperature or the effect on battery longevity.

The testing program covers 41 models, but Huawei has not announced a final release date for HarmonyOS 7 or detailed whether every device in the test group will receive Direct Power at the same time.
