Galaxy Z Fold 8 drops to 2 rear cameras as Ultra keeps zoom

A new leak says Samsung will sharply split its next foldables, with the Fold 8 losing a telephoto camera and the Ultra keeping a 3x zoom lens.

Samsung appears set to draw a much harder line between its next two foldable flagships. According to a WinFuture leak published a week before Galaxy Unpacked, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 will ship with just two rear cameras, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra keeps a more premium triple-camera setup including optical zoom.

If the leak is accurate, both phones will use a flexible Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel on a titanium backing, a change that should make the display more rigid and help reduce the visibility of the crease. Both models are also said to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy clocked at up to 4.47 GHz, with Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, 5G, and IP48 protection.

The biggest change is in the camera split. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 reportedly gets a 50 MP main camera and a 50 MP ultrawide, plus a 10 MP front camera. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, by contrast, is tipped to include a 200 MP main sensor, a 50 MP ultrawide, and a 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The ultrawide on the Ultra would also jump to 50 MP from 12 MP previously.

Other leaked specs include:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8: 7.6-inch inner display, 5.5-inch outer display, 4,800 mAh battery, 4.5 mm thickness, 201 g
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: 8-inch inner display, 6.5-inch outer display, 5,000 mAh battery, 4.1 mm thickness, 218 g
  • Memory and storage: 12 GB or 16 GB RAM, with 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB storage
  • Charging: 45 W wired plus wireless charging on both models
  • Colors: Graphite, Cream, Lavender or Violet Shadow, Pistachio or Green Shadow

The leak also contradicts a recent rumor that Samsung would cap charging at 25 W. According to the report, both foldables support 45 W charging. EPREL database listings reportedly show battery life of up to 49 hours 10 minutes for the Fold 8 and just over 51 hours for the Ultra, with battery durability rated at 1,200 charge cycles.

In Germany, pricing is said to start at €1,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and €2,199 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung has scheduled Galaxy Unpacked for July 22 in London.

The strategy fits Samsung’s recent moves. The company previously tested a thinner, pricier foldable with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which also emphasized reduced thickness and a 200 MP camera. With pressure from Honor and Google — the Honor Magic V3 is even thinner when unfolded, while the Pixel Fold competes on cameras and outer-screen usability — Samsung now looks ready to answer with two foldables aimed at very different buyers.
