AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800HX3D targets gaming laptops
AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800HX3D reportedly brings 8 cores, 5.1 GHz speeds and 96 MB of cache to gaming laptops in late 2026.

AMD is preparing the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D, its first eight-core Fire Range processor with 3D V-Cache. According to insider Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, the laptop chip will feature 8 cores, 16 threads, a maximum clock speed of up to 5.1 GHz, and 96 MB of L3 cache.
The processor is expected to serve as the mobile counterpart to the popular desktop Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
The chip was previously expected to launch as the Ryzen 7 9755HX3D. The insider now says AMD has selected the 9800HX3D designation to bring the mobile model’s name closer to its desktop equivalent.

The 96 MB of L3 cache points to a single eight-core compute die with 32 MB of standard cache and an additional 64 MB layer of 3D V-Cache. The desktop Ryzen 7 9800X3D uses the same total cache capacity, although preliminary information indicates that the mobile version’s maximum frequency will be approximately 100 MHz lower.
Production and laptop availability
Mass production is reportedly scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The first laptops could arrive before the end of the year, but CES 2027, taking place in Las Vegas in early January, is considered the most likely venue for the processor’s official debut.
The insider also claims AMD will not impose strict requirements on the discrete GPU paired with the chip. Laptop makers should therefore be able to combine the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D with a range of mobile GeForce RTX and Radeon graphics solutions.
