Vivo quietly unveiled the Y6 5G, a budget-friendly smartphone focused on long battery life, solid performance, and durable build features.
Powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset built on a 4nm process, the Y6 5G isn’t a powerhouse but should handle everyday tasks like social media scrolling, chatting, and video streaming with ease. It measures 8.39 mm thick and weighs approximately 219 grams, largely due to its hefty 7200mAh battery.
The front sports a 6.57-inch LCD display running at 120Hz with an HD+ resolution of 1570×720 pixels. Despite the lower resolution, it hits a peak brightness of 1200 nits for good visibility outdoors. The choice of an HD+ screen likely helps reduce graphic load and ensures smoother performance at that refresh rate, similar to what some rivals do to balance smoothness and efficiency.

The camera setup is straightforward: a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Behind the rear cameras, Vivo has included a ”breathing” light that doubles as a notification indicator-a feature that’s uncommon in this segment.
The headline feature is the massive 7200mAh battery, promising over a day of use on a single charge. Fast charging support tops out at 44W. There’s also a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an infrared port, and water and dust resistance rated to IP68 and IP69 standards-the latter being a rare mark almost never seen on budget models, suggesting strong durability.
Running OriginOS 6 based on Android 16, the phone’s software update plans remain undisclosed. OriginOS is Vivo’s proprietary system skin, tailored mainly for the Chinese market, so international users might be curious how the experience compares to vanilla Android or other custom skins.
Currently, the Vivo Y6 5G is available in China with pricing as follows:
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage – 2199 CNY (~€275)
- 8GB RAM + 256GB storage – 1999 CNY (~€250)
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage – 1799 CNY (~€225)
There’s no word yet on whether Vivo plans a global rollout for the Y6 5G, leaving its availability outside China uncertain.
In a crowded budget smartphone segment dominated by Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung’s entry-level models, the Vivo Y6 5G stands out with its oversized battery and rare IP69 rating-features that might attract users prioritizing durability and endurance over raw power or camera sophistication. Watch whether Vivo brings this model to other markets and how well these features resonate outside China.
