Poco X8 leak points to a 9,000mAh battery
A HyperOS code reference suggests Poco may revive the canceled X8, possibly with a 9,000mAh battery in India.

Poco may not have shelved the base X8 after all. Insider Kacper Skrzypek says he found references to the phone in HyperOS code, even though the standard model was widely considered canceled after the launch of the Poco X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max.
The bigger hook is the battery. If the Poco X8 is in fact a rebadged Redmi Note 17 Pro, one version could ship with a 9,000mAh battery. According to the leak, the phone would also feature a 50MP main camera and a 2MP secondary sensor, matching the Chinese Redmi Note 17 Pro.
That would fit Poco’s long-running strategy. The brand frequently reuses Redmi hardware and tweaks a few details such as the camera setup, battery, and regional availability rather than rebuilding a phone from scratch.

If this leak is accurate, the split could look like this:
- India: 9,000mAh battery, borrowed from the Chinese Redmi Note 17 Pro
- Global model: 8,340mAh battery
Either way, that is unusually large for the midrange. Even many gaming phones in recent years have stayed around 6,000mAh to 7,000mAh, suggesting the X8 would be positioned more around endurance than camera performance.
The rest of the specs are also expected to carry over from the Redmi Note 17 Pro, including:
- 6.83-inch AMOLED display
- 1.5K resolution
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Snapdragon 6s Gen 4
- 67W charging
- 22.5W reverse charging
- 8MP front camera
The camera arrangement is where things get odd. Skrzypek says the global Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G would replace the 2MP secondary sensor with an 8MP ultrawide camera, which could leave the Poco X8 looking weaker than its Redmi counterpart.
The leak surfaced shortly after reports about the Poco M8 Power, which is also said to be a renamed Redmi Note 17 for markets outside China. That kind of regional reshuffling is standard practice for Xiaomi, where nearly identical phones can appear under Redmi and Poco branding with different names, batteries, and cameras depending on the market.
There is still no launch date for the Poco X8. Whether the supposedly canceled model returns to the lineup should become clearer after the global debut of the Redmi Note 17 Pro, which is expected in the next few days.
