Russia’s exclusive ONYX International distributor, MacCentre, has opened pre-orders for the ONYX BOOX Go 6 (Gen II), the latest version of its compact 6-inch e-reader. Priced at 22,990 rubles (around $280), this second-generation model upgrades RAM and adds stylus support to meet growing demands for versatile e-paper devices.
ONYX BOOX Go 6 (Gen II) E Ink Carta Plus display with advanced lighting
The Go 6 (Gen II) features a 6-inch E Ink Carta Plus screen with a resolution of 1072×1448 pixels and a sharp 300 ppi density. Its MOON Light 2 front light offers adjustable color temperature and flicker-free technology to reduce eye strain during extended reading sessions. To cut down on typical e-ink artifacts during partial refreshes, the device uses SNOW Field (Regal) technology for a cleaner image.

The display integrates a Metal Mesh layer on top of the standard capacitive touch sensor for stylus input, supporting 4,096 pressure levels. It’s protected by ONYX Glass, which promises higher transparency and glare reduction, improving readability under various lighting conditions.
Performance and storage of the ONYX BOOX Go 6 (Gen II)
Under the hood, the Go 6 (Gen II) runs on an octa-core 2.0 GHz processor paired with 3 GB of RAM-an increase from the 2 GB in the previous generation-ensuring smoother app usage and faster page turns. Storage stands at 32 GB onboard with a microSD slot for expansion.
Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac at 2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB Type-C port with OTG support. Its 1,500 mAh lithium-polymer battery offers ample power for extended reading.

Running Android 11, the device allows installation of third-party apps, including alternative e-readers and online library clients. It ships with an audio player, text-to-speech capabilities, and a built-in microphone for voice memos. An online translator is accessible when connected to the internet, adding convenience for multilingual readers.

Accessories are sold separately, including a magnetic cover that automatically puts the device to sleep and the BOOX InkSense Plus active stylus. The box includes:

While ONYX BOOX devices have historically catered to niche users seeking Android-based e-readers with stylus input, the Go 6 (Gen II) now offers a more polished mid-range option that could compete with mainstream devices like Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Clara HD, especially for those wanting Android app flexibility and note-taking capabilities. At this price point, it marks a reasonable balance between hardware specs and portability.
Keep an eye on how the BOOX Go 6 (Gen II) performs in real-world use-especially battery life and stylus responsiveness-as these will determine its appeal amid growing competition from brands integrating E Ink and writing features. The expanded RAM and Android 11 support hint at a smoother experience, but software optimization will be crucial in solidifying its market position.
