LG has refreshed its giant ultrawide OLED gaming monitor with a new badge, a few AI tricks, and the same core hardware underneath. The UltraGear 45GX950B keeps the 45-inch 5K2K panel, the 330Hz dual-mode option, and the aggressively curved design, so this is less a clean-sheet sequel than a software-flavored remix.

That makes the pitch pretty clear: if you wanted the LG UltraGear 45GX950B but waited for a slightly newer model, this is the one to watch. If you already own the old version, LG has not given you much reason to open your wallet again.

45-inch 5K2K panel stays the same

The 45GX950B still uses LG’s 3rd Gen WOLED panel rather than the newer Tandem OLED technology. Specs are basically carried over wholesale: a 45-inch ultrawide screen, 21:9 aspect ratio, 800R curvature, matte anti-glare coating, 165Hz native refresh rate, and a dual-mode option that pushes up to 330Hz at a lower resolution.

Resolution remains 5120 x 2160, with 125 PPI pixel density, 0.03ms response time, and 98.5% DCI-P3 coverage. HDR support goes up to 1300 nits in small highlights, alongside VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification. In other words, LG has kept the spec sheet where it was and simply polished the presentation.

AI features are the main upgrade

The headline additions are AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization, and AI Sound. LG says these features are meant to sharpen content, adjust picture settings to what is on screen, and improve audio by separating dialogue, effects, and background sound. That sounds helpful, though display makers have been sprinkling ”AI” on products for long enough that buyers are justified in raising an eyebrow.

This is also part of a wider industry pattern: when panel tech is expensive and yields are slow to improve, manufacturers lean harder on software to make products feel new. LG’s own monitor lineup has already shown that these extras can be uneven in real use, so the B model is really about adding features without touching the expensive bits.

Ports are strong, speakers are not

There is one small downgrade tucked into the update. The built-in speakers drop from 10W to 7W, which is hardly catastrophic unless you were banking on monitor audio to do heavy lifting. Connectivity, at least, is still properly stacked: DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with power delivery, and multiple USB ports.

  • Screen size: 45 inches
  • Resolution: 5120 x 2160
  • Refresh rate: 165Hz native, up to 330Hz in dual mode
  • Panel: 3rd Gen WOLED
  • Brightness: up to 1300 nits in small highlights
  • Ports: DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with power delivery

Price and release window in Japan

The UltraGear 45GX950B has appeared on LG’s Japan website and is up for pre-order, with shipping expected to start on June 11, 2026. It is listed at ¥259,800, roughly $1,660 before taxes, with a higher original price also shown. Global availability has not been confirmed.

If LG keeps the pricing close to the previous model, the company could quietly use the 45GX950B to replace the 45GX950A in its lineup. The real question is whether shoppers reward that kind of incremental refresh, or whether they wait for the panel tech to move forward instead of sideways.
