Google Meet is getting a built-in note taker, and Gemini is doing the typing. Google is rolling out ”Take notes for me” to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, plus eligible Workspace business users, giving them automated meeting notes on web and mobile with real-time summaries and action items. It is a tidy upgrade for people who would rather listen than play stenographer.

The feature works in the background with user permission, then wraps up by saving a summary to the host’s Google Drive as a Google Doc and sending participants an instant recap email. That makes Google Meet feel less like a video app and more like an assistant-driven workflow tool, especially as Microsoft keeps stuffing Copilot into Teams and Zoom keeps refining its own AI meeting helpers.

How Gemini’s note-taking in Google Meet works

Hosts can turn it on during an active call by clicking the pencil icon at the top of the Meet window. They can also switch it on for future meetings through the ”Meeting records” section in Meet settings. Everyone in the call gets an automated notification once note-taking starts, which is the right call; nobody likes a surprise transcript lurking in the background.

  • Available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers
  • Also available to eligible Workspace business users
  • Works on web and mobile devices
  • Creates real-time summaries and key action items
  • Saves a Google Doc in the host’s Google Drive after the meeting ends

Languages and rollout

Google says the feature is currently available in select languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. That list is broad enough to make the feature useful for a lot of meetings, but narrow enough to remind everyone that AI rollouts are still very much staged affairs, not instant global launches.

The bigger question is how quickly users embrace it. Automatic notes are handy, sure, but they also make meeting hygiene a little less optional, and that will probably be the real test for Gemini inside Meet.
