Apple has introduced the long-awaited Golden Gate Bridge wallpapers and lock screen animations in the third beta of macOS 27 Golden Gate. Users can now choose between two new visuals-Golden Gate Sunset and Golden Gate Night-both available as dynamic wallpapers and animated lock screens.

Currently, macOS 27 Golden Gate is available only to developers. Apple typically rolls out the public beta in July, with the final release arriving this fall alongside new Mac hardware and shortly after the annual iPhone event in September. This means there’s still time for refinements, but the key visual element-the Golden Gate Bridge wallpapers-is now in place.

Apple’s macOS releases typically launch alongside Mac updates in the fall. Unlike Windows or various Linux distributions, Apple’s desktop OS is tightly integrated with its hardware schedule. These Golden Gate Bridge wallpapers mark a notable branding milestone for macOS 27. While last year’s macOS Ventura initially debuted without major new wallpapers, this version embraces the Golden Gate Bridge theme to reflect its Californian inspiration.

With these new animated and static wallpaper options, Apple finally delivers on a visual promise made when it named its latest OS after one of San Francisco’s most iconic landmarks. The next key questions are how much wallpaper customization macOS 27 will offer and whether these animations impact battery life on portable Macs. Expect more tweaks as the public beta opens and user feedback arrives.
