Russian voice actor Pyotr Glantz-Ivaschenko sparked speculation by casually mentioning that a remake of Gothic 2 is already underway. However, developer Alkimia Interactive quickly denied the claim, stating their team is still focused on patches for the recently released Gothic 1 Remake.

The controversy began when Pyotr Glantz-Ivaschenko, who voices the Nameless Hero in the Russian version of Gothic 1 Remake, mentioned in a short video that ”secretly,” work on the Gothic 2 remake had already started. He also referenced Raven, a key character who had previously been voiced by the same actor in Gothic 2. This slip hinted at continuity that might intrigue fans eager for a follow-up.
Alkimia Interactive’s community manager, Timur Khodyrev, responded tersely, expressing confusion over the claim. Khodyrev speculated the actor might be mixing up the rumored remake with an upcoming console re-release of the original Gothic 2. Officially, the studio remains committed to updating and patching the Gothic 1 Remake for now.
THQ Nordic’s potential plans for a Gothic 2 remake
This exchange isn’t coming out of nowhere. Before Gothic 1 Remake even launched, publisher THQ Nordic hinted at plans for a potential Gothic 2 remake if the first game’s reimagining performed well. And perform well it did: since its June 5 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the remake has garnered over 21,000 Steam reviews with an 88% positive rating. Publisher numbers cite 500,000 copies sold in the first week-impressive for a niche RPG reboot of a cult classic from the early 2000s.
Gothic 2’s legacy and franchise revival prospects
Gothic 2 enjoys a near-legendary status among fans for its larger world and more consistent pacing compared to the original 2001 title. THQ Nordic has been actively mining its back catalog of RPG and action franchises, from Alone in the Dark to Titan Quest 2, making a Gothic 2 remake a natural next step if Gothic 1 Remake’s momentum holds.
Future outlook for Gothic remakes and series continuation
The real question now is whether Gothic 1 Remake can sustain strong sales past its initial launch spike this summer. THQ Nordic’s continuation plans for the series will depend heavily on that. Meanwhile, the voice actor’s comment suggests some inside chatter about Gothic 2’s future is already stirring, even if official confirmation remains absent.
