Fulqrum Publishing has given ”King’s Bounty. Легенда о рыцаре” a big technical refresh to mark the game’s 18th anniversary, folding in modern PC comforts that the original release never had: Steam Workshop support, achievements, a cleaner interface, proper widescreen aspect ratios, and compatibility with current operating systems.
That is a smart way to keep an old strategy game alive without pretending it is something else. The update also hints at a broader trend publishers are leaning into: back-catalogue games are no longer being left to rot on digital shelves, because mod support and platform features can extend their shelf life at very low risk.
What the King’s Bounty update adds
The headline additions are straightforward. Players can now use Steam Workshop to download community-made mods, and the game finally has official achievements. Fulqrum’s first trophy, ”Titanomachy,” asks players to beat three story bosses in sequence: Geya, Kraken, and the Queen of Spiders.
There is one catch: loading an old save will not count. Anyone chasing the reward has to start a fresh campaign and clear those bosses the intended way. The first 20 players to do that will receive any game from Fulqrum Publishing’s catalog, which is a neat little incentive for completionists and speedrunners with too much free time.
Legacy mode, artbook giveaway and Steam extras
Fulqrum has also handed out the series’ digital artbook and full official soundtrack on Valve’s platform, while Steam trading cards are now live on the game’s profile. For players who prefer the untouched version, the original release can still be launched through a dedicated Legacy tab in Steam’s game properties.
That split is the right call. Modern features pull in new players, while a legacy launcher keeps the purists from complaining that the publisher ”fixed” their nostalgia into something unrecognizable.
From 2008 to a 90% Steam rating
”King’s Bounty. Легенда о рыцаре” first launched on PC on 25 April 2008 and earned a warm reception from critics and players alike. On Steam, it has more than 3,000 ”very positive” reviews and a 90% rating, which explains why Fulqrum is bothering to polish it instead of quietly moving on.
The publisher is already working on the next game in the series, the standalone expansion ”Принцесса в доспехах,” which is also slated to get achievements and other upgrades. If this revival sticks, expect more older strategy games to be treated less like relics and more like living products with workshops, badges, and the occasional nostalgia-fueled giveaway.
