JBL has refreshed its Live headphones lineup in India with two new models that lean hard into the usual premium checklist: adaptive noise cancellation, spatial audio, long battery life, and Bluetooth 6.0. The new JBL Live 780NC and 680NC are priced at Rs 15,999 and Rs 11,999, respectively.

The bigger surprise is the pricing. At a time when rivals are stuffing more features into mid-range cans, JBL is trying to make ”good enough” ANC feel a lot less good enough.

The new pair splits neatly by form factor. The Live 780NC is the over-ear option, while the Live 680NC goes on-ear. Both use 40mm dynamic drivers, support JBL Spatial Sound 3.0, and include Personi-Fi 3.0 for sound tuning based on the listener’s hearing preferences. That puts them squarely against the kind of headphones buyers usually compare from Sony, Bose, and Sennheiser, where feature lists now matter almost as much as brand loyalty.

ANC, microphones and call quality

JBL says both headphones use True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0, but the mic array differs: six microphones on the Live 780NC and four on the Live 680NC. For calls, both models rely on two beamforming microphones plus an AI-trained noise reduction algorithm. That is a familiar recipe by now, but it is still the right one for commuters, office calls, and anyone tired of sounding like they are phoning in from a wind tunnel.

Connectivity is similarly packed. Both models support Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint connectivity, Auracast, and LDAC on compatible devices for high-resolution wireless audio. The Bluetooth 6.0 badge will grab attention, though the real-world upside will depend on how fast phone makers and laptop vendors catch up. Standards are nice; ecosystem support is what actually gets used.

Battery life and charging speed

Battery life is the headline spec JBL wants people to remember. Both headphones are rated for up to 80 hours of playback with ANC off and up to 50 hours with ANC on. A five-minute top-up can reportedly add up to four hours of listening time, which is the kind of number that makes battery anxiety feel almost old-fashioned.

  • Live 780NC price: Rs 15,999 (~$170)
  • Live 680NC price: Rs 11,999 (~$130)
  • Colours: Black, Blue, White, Champagne, Green, Orange, and Purple
  • Live 780NC pre-bookings start on June 18
  • Live 680NC sale date: July 15

Launch pricing and availability

The Live 780NC goes on pre-booking on June 18 through JBL India’s website and Amazon, with a limited-period Rs 2,000 discount and a free one-year extended warranty. It will also arrive through major retail outlets from Amazon Prime Day, while the Live 680NC follows on July 15. JBL is clearly aiming for volume here: broad colour options, wide availability, and enough premium features to make these look more expensive than they are.

That strategy makes sense in a market where headphone buyers increasingly expect ANC, multi-device pairing, and decent battery life even below flagship pricing. The real question is whether JBL’s mix of spatial audio, LDAC, and Bluetooth 6.0 is enough to stand out once the first wave of launch excitement fades and the usual discount wars begin.
