Xiaomi has started selling a new Jinshajiang power bank in China, and the headline feature is hard to ignore: 840 Wh/L energy density in a body small enough to carry on a plane, at least on paper and under China’s new standard. It costs 369 yuan, or $54, and pairs a silicon-carbon battery design with 3C certification, which is the kind of paperwork that turns a ”nice gadget” into something travelers can actually take seriously.

The timing is smart. Compact power banks are getting squeezed by stricter airline rules and consumer demand for faster charging, so Xiaomi is leaning on density, certification, and magnetic convenience instead of just shouting about capacity like it’s 2019.

Jinshajiang power bank size and battery specs

The device measures 102 x 70.5 x 13.2 mm and weighs 195 g, which puts it firmly in pocketable territory. Inside are two 5,000 mAh cells, and Xiaomi says its GSR silicon-carbon anode contains up to 16% silicon to keep the package compact without giving up too much usable energy.

  • Energy density: 840 Wh/L
  • Battery cells: 2 x 5,000 mAh
  • Dimensions: 102 x 70.5 x 13.2 mm
  • Weight: 195 g

Charging speeds for phones and accessories

On the charging side, Xiaomi is not playing it safe. The battery supports magnetic wireless charging up to 20 W for iPhone and Xiaomi phones, plus wired fast charging up to 45 W with PD and QC support. It can charge two devices at once, while the power bank itself can be refilled at up to 30 W.

That combination matters more than the sticker capacity. Apple, Anker, and other accessory brands have spent years turning power banks into mini charging hubs, and Xiaomi is clearly chasing the same idea: a small brick that does not sit around pretending to be useful.

The airline-safe angle Xiaomi is betting on

The big selling point is certification. Xiaomi says the battery meets China’s new national standard and carries 3C certification, which is what gives the company room to market it as suitable for air travel. For buyers, that is the difference between a travel accessory and a drawer ornament.

If Xiaomi keeps this pricing aggressive, expect rivals in China to answer with thinner silicon-carbon packs of their own. The real question is whether the same formula – high density, magnetic charging, airline-friendly certification – becomes the new baseline outside China, or stays a local flex for now.
