Xiaomi’s rumored Xiaomi 17 Max is now being pointed toward the second half of May, and the headline spec is hard to ignore: an 8,000mAh battery in a mainstream flagship-sized phone. If that leak is right, Xiaomi is aiming at the same customer everyone else is chasing – someone who wants a big screen, long runtime, and fewer excuses for carrying a charger around.

The catch is that Xiaomi still hasn’t said a word officially, so this is very much leak territory. But the timing fits a familiar pattern: early chatter said April, then May, and now the window is getting narrower. Xiaomi rarely lets a premium model sit quietly for long, so expect teasers if the current timeline holds.

Xiaomi 17 Max launch window

According to the latest tip, the Xiaomi 17 Max should launch in China in the second half of May. That also suggests Xiaomi could begin teasing the device in the first week of May, which is the usual warm-up act before the company starts flooding feeds with camera and battery claims. There is still no confirmation on whether the phone will get a broader release beyond China.

Xiaomi 17 Max rumored specs

The phone is said to use a 6.9-inch flat OLED panel with 1.5K resolution and LIPO packaging for very slim, symmetrical bezels. Unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, this model is expected to skip the rear display and use that space for a larger battery instead. That’s a sensible trade, and probably the right one: most buyers will notice endurance more than a tiny secondary screen anyway.

  • 8,000mAh battery
  • 100W wired charging
  • 50W wireless charging
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset
  • 200-megapixel Samsung HPE main camera
  • 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom
  • 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, water and dust resistance, symmetrical dual speakers

That camera setup looks aimed squarely at rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy S series and the top-end OnePlus and vivo flagships, where battery life has become a bigger selling point than raw speed. If Xiaomi really delivers those charging numbers alongside that battery capacity, the 17 Max could be one of the more overqualified phones of the season – in a good way.

For now, the only confirmed thing is that nothing is confirmed. The next signal to watch is whether Xiaomi starts teasing the phone in early May, because that usually means the launch is close and the leak cycle is about to get noisier, not quieter.
