Ugreen has squeezed a 45W GaN charger into a body so thin it looks closer to a credit-card accessory than a normal wall adapter. The new Nexode Air 45W Ice Chip charger has launched in China for 109 yuan ($16), and its 12.5mm thickness is the whole point: this is a charger built to disappear into a pocket, not dominate a power strip.

The broader story here is simple enough. Charger makers have spent years using GaN to shrink power bricks, and now the race is shifting from ”smaller” to ”absurdly small without overheating.” Ugreen is clearly trying to win that argument by making the chassis flatter than most competing 45W chargers, while still promising enough output for phones, tablets, and even handheld gaming PCs.

The charger measures 62.2 x 42.74 x 12.5 mm and weighs about 54 grams. Ugreen says it is roughly 58% smaller by volume than its previous 45W chargers, and the foldable prongs plus flat rectangular shape make that claim easy to imagine: it should slip into a laptop sleeve without creating the usual awkward lump.

How Ugreen is handling heat

Stuffing 45W into such a shallow shell naturally raises the temperature question, and Ugreen leans hard into cooling language here. The company says the internal layout is high-density, the structure is heat-conductive, and its Thermal Guard system checks temperature multiple times per second to keep the surface from getting too hot.

It also claims a power density of 1.496W/cm³ and an energy conversion efficiency of 90%. Add in overcurrent, overvoltage, and short-circuit protection, plus a flame-retardant shell, and the message is clear: this is not just a tiny charger, it is a tiny charger trying to look serious enough for daily carry.

There is also a battery-friendly twist. Once a connected phone or tablet reaches 80% capacity, the charger switches to a slower trickle-charge mode, which should help keep heat in check and reduce stress on the battery. That is the sort of behavior users usually want from a premium laptop charger, not a budget wall plug.

How the Nexode Air 45W compares with rival chargers

Ugreen is not alone in trying to make fast chargers less chunky. Belkin recently introduced a 45W GaN charger with a built-in retractable USB-C cable, while Anker showed off a 160W smart charger that supports Huawei’s 66W SuperCharge and Xiaomi’s 120W fast-charging standards. Different goals, same message: charger companies are now selling convenience and portability just as aggressively as raw wattage.

The Nexode Air 45W is the more elegant pitch if you care about size over extras. No cable attached, no multi-device flex, just a tiny square of power that should travel well and charge fast enough for most phones and smaller gear. The catch, as always, is whether real-world thermal performance matches the spec sheet swagger.

For now, the unanswered question is whether this ultra-thin design becomes the new baseline for 45W chargers or stays a neat Ugreen party trick. If other brands copy the formula, the old bulky power bricks may finally start looking like relics from a less civilized age.
