The Skin Suit has become the standout costume from Stellar Blade even before the game’s release. Cosplayers worldwide quickly embraced it, making the sleek, second-skin look one of this year’s hottest cosplay choices.

What is the Skin Suit and why has it gained cult status

Skin Suit is Eva’s default nano-suit in Stellar Blade, designed within the game’s lore by the Mother Sphere organization for the elite airborne unit. It’s essentially a living second skin that automatically expands or contracts depending on the combat situation.

Visually, it’s a skin-tone, form-fitting jumpsuit with metallic panels on the torso, neck, arms, and legs, plus metal cuffs and a distinctive spine-like pattern on the back. Barcodes adorn the left shoulder, Korean characters decorate the left arm, and ”07 eve” is inscribed on the neck and lower right back. Studio founder Kim Hyung Tae told Famitsu that the suit’s key characteristic is its intentionally skin-like texture, setting it apart from typical game outfits.

The Skin Suit also has a gameplay drawback: wearing it disables Eva’s shield entirely, making her take much more damage. The developers caution that this suit isn’t recommended for beginners. Cosplayers, however, aren’t held back by such constraints.

The Fandom wiki suggests the Skin Suit may be a nod to the biblical image of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden before they experienced shame – a fitting symbolism for a suit designed as a second skin.

Meet Eva, the soldier behind the Skin Suit

Eva is the protagonist of Stellar Blade, a soldier from the 7th airborne unit who descends from an orbital colony to a monster-overrun Earth. Her mission: eradicate the enemy known as Naitre and reclaim the planet for humanity.

Created and designed by Kim Hyung Tae, founder of Korean developer Shift Up (famous for Goddess of Victory: NIKKE), Eva is meant to blend seamlessly into the game world while evoking a subtle tension in players. Her animations draw heavily from ballet and gymnastics, giving her movement a unique fluidity rarely seen in male-dominated action heroes. Kim cites 2B from NieR: Automata and Vanessa Schneider from P.N.03 as key inspirations.

Shift Up doesn’t skim on Eva’s wardrobe either: Stellar Blade features 84 different nano-suits, giving players a wide variety of looks beyond the iconic Skin Suit.

Stellar Blade sales and expansions

Stellar Blade launched exclusively on PS5 in April 2024, later arriving on PC via Steam in June 2025. The PC release hit over one million sales in just a few days, pushing total game sales past three million copies. A sequel is already underway. Over two years, the game has secured multiple crossovers – including collaborations with NIKKE and PUBG: Battlegrounds – along with a steady stream of cosplayers keeping the hype alive.

While the Skin Suit balances style and vulnerability within the game, cosplayers have fully embraced its bold aesthetic. As Stellar Blade’s universe expands with a sequel and new collaborations, expect the Skin Suit to remain a favorite for creative expression and discussion around character design that blurs the line between elegance and edge.
