Rostelecom fiber reaches 80% of homes in major cities
Rostelecom says fiber networks reach over 80% of homes in Russia’s largest cities, with plans to upgrade busy sections to 10 Gbit/s.

Rostelecom says its fiber-optic networks now reach more than 80% of residential buildings in Russia’s largest cities, according to figures the provider disclosed for the first time.
The company reported that the total length of its fiber-optic communications lines has exceeded 1.1 million kilometers. More than two-thirds of Russian households can now connect to high-speed internet.
As of the end of the first half of 2026, coverage exceeded 90% in most district centers. Among Russia’s million-plus cities, the highest coverage levels were recorded in Omsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, and Rostov-on-Don.
Murmansk Oblast and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug led the regions, with optical infrastructure available to 99% of households. High coverage was also reported in Lipetsk Oblast, the Republic of Mari El, and Kamchatka. In Komi and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, new line construction has brought network access to more than 90% of families.

Rostelecom is continuing to modernize the network. It plans to upgrade some of the most heavily loaded sections to data rates of up to 10 Gbit/s in the near future. Russia has also begun serial production of Wi-Fi 6 routers capable of speeds of up to 3 Gbit/s.
