AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT has finally shown up in the Steam Hardware Survey, and it arrives with a surprisingly healthy 1.33% share. The catch is that this happened after the card launched in early March 2025, which makes the delay more amusing than impressive. The Radeon RX 9060 XT has also appeared for the first time, while Nvidia still dominates the list without much effort.
That’s the familiar Steam Hardware Survey story: even newer AMD cards can take a long time to register in meaningful numbers, while older GeForce models keep hanging around. Steam’s sample is not a perfect market share mirror, but it does reveal what a huge installed base Nvidia still has on PC gaming rigs, and how hard AMD has to work to move the needle.
Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9060 XT debut in Steam Hardware Survey
The RX 9070 XT’s 1.33% share is notable because it lands ahead of many GeForce RTX 30 and RTX 40 series models. Steam also gives the Radeon RX 9060 XT a first reading of 0.72%, which is a decent start for a card that has only just entered the chart. For AMD, that’s better than a ghostly zero, though still nowhere near the kind of momentum that changes the leaderboard.
Two other AMD boards also appear for the first time: the Radeon RX 7600 at 0.48% and the Radeon RX 7900 XT at 0.36%. The message is plain enough – RDNA 4 is finally getting measured, but Nvidia remains the house favorite.
Nvidia still owns Steam’s graphics card chart
Even with those new AMD entries, Steam’s most common GPUs are still overwhelmingly Nvidia parts. The RTX 3060 alone is above 4%, and the GeForce RTX 5080 is sitting at around 1.47%, just ahead of the RX 9070 XT’s debut reading. That comparison says less about one card’s success than about how stubborn PC hardware habits can be.
Steam Hardware Survey has always rewarded volume, not hype. If AMD wants its newer cards to climb faster, it needs more than launch-day headlines – it needs sustained retail availability, aggressive pricing, and a reason for buyers to abandon the safe old GeForce default.
Steam Hardware Survey first readings
- Radeon RX 9070 XT: 1.33%
- Radeon RX 9060 XT: 0.72%
- Radeon RX 7600: 0.48%
- Radeon RX 7900 XT: 0.36%
- GeForce RTX 5080: about 1.47%
- GeForce RTX 3060: more than 4%
The interesting question now is whether these early Steam numbers keep rising or settle into the usual slow burn. AMD has finally made it onto the board; the harder part is moving from ”appeared” to ”actually common.”
