Onimusha: Way of the Sword may have quietly slipped its release date forward, if a Canadian retailer listing is to be believed. Capcom’s game was last given a firm launch date of 25 September, but one pre-order page now points to 4 September instead – a move that would pull it out of a crowded late-September release pileup.

The catch is obvious: this is retailer data, not an official Capcom announcement. And the same store, PNP Games, has previously floated inaccurate release information, so the safer read is ”interesting rumor,” not ”pack your katana.”

Why the 4 September date stands out

Onimusha: Way of the Sword was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2024 and was positioned for 2026 before June’s State of Play locked in 25 September. A shift to 4 September would give Capcom some breathing room before 24 September, when Silent Hill: Townfall, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, and Control Resonant are set to land. Valor Mortis was also due in that same window, though it has since moved to 13 October.

That sort of adjustment would not be unprecedented for Capcom. Pragmata was moved this year from 24 April to 17 April, so the publisher has already shown it is willing to shuffle dates when the calendar gets ugly.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword platforms and features

The game is in development for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Capcom is pitching a mix of sword-heavy combat, supernatural abilities, and fantasy rooted in Japanese history. It will also support a full Russian translation, which is the sort of detail publishers often bury until the last minute.

  • Current official date: 25 September
  • Retailer-listed date: 4 September
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S
  • Setting: fantasy inspired by Japanese history

For now, the smart money is on waiting for Capcom to confirm or deny the change. If the retailer is right, September’s schedule just got a lot kinder to Onimusha. If not, it is another reminder that pre-order pages can be fast – and wrong.
