The OnePlus 16 is shaping up to be one of those spec-sheet monsters that sounds a little ridiculous until you remember how aggressively Chinese flagship brands have been chasing numbers. A new OnePlus 16 leak says the phone is being tested with a 185Hz display, a 200-megapixel periscope camera, and a dedicated AI button, while earlier reports pointed to a battery around 9,000mAh and a top-tier Snapdragon chip.

That would put OnePlus on a very familiar path: more speed, more camera hardware, more everything. The catch, of course, is that refresh rate bragging rights only matter if the panel, touch response, and software can keep up – and that is usually where the real story hides.

OnePlus 16 display leak points to 185Hz

According to tipster Smart Pikachu, the OnePlus 16 is currently being evaluated with a 185Hz screen and ultra-narrow bezels on all four sides. That is lower than the previously rumored 240Hz figure, but still an eye-catching jump from the 165Hz panel on the OnePlus 15.

OnePlus is also said to be testing a BOE-supplied 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel with a custom touch control IC and support for the BT.2020 color gamut. In plain English: the company seems to be aiming for a display that is both fast and premium, which is exactly the kind of message you send when your rivals are just as obsessed with shiny benchmarks.

200MP periscope camera and AI button

The camera setup is where the leak gets properly audacious. The phone is tipped to use a 3x periscope telephoto camera with a 200-megapixel Samsung HP5 sensor, alongside a 50-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide.

An AI button is also mentioned, which fits the current habit of bolting an extra shortcut onto a flagship and calling it intelligence. If that sounds a little cynical, it is – but it also reflects where the market is going, with hardware makers trying to turn AI into a visible physical feature rather than a background software update.

  • Display: 185Hz LTPO OLED, 6.78-inch, ultra-narrow bezels
  • Camera: 200-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto
  • Rear cameras: 50-megapixel primary, 50-megapixel ultrawide
  • Battery: around 9,000mAh
  • Other rumored features: ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor, symmetrical dual speakers, X-axis bionic vibration motor, IP68/69 resistance

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and a huge battery

Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 may use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, with support for LPDDR6 RAM. That would keep it squarely in the premium-flagship lane, where OnePlus now has to fight not just traditional Android rivals but also the usual spec-sheet arms race that defines the segment.

The battery rumor is almost as loud as the camera one: around 9,000mAh. Charging details have not leaked yet, though OnePlus could stick with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging if it wants continuity with the previous generation.

If these leaks hold up, the OnePlus 16 will not be trying to be subtle. The bigger question is whether the final phone will be a polished flagship or just a louder one – because with this many high-end parts, the bill always comes due somewhere.
