Samsung’s next clamshell foldable may be in line for a long-overdue charging upgrade, with a new rumor claiming the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will jump from 25W to 45W wired charging. That would put it much closer to rivals like Motorola’s Razr Plus and far less awkward next to Samsung’s own foldables.

But there is a catch: certification filings suggest something else. Public listings on China’s 3C database and the SGS database point to 25W for the Z Flip 8, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra are the ones clearing 45W. So for now, Samsung’s flip phone is caught between paperwork and rumor, and they do not agree.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 charging claims conflict with certifications

The newer claim comes from Lanzuk on Naver, which says the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will support 45W wired charging. If that proves accurate, Samsung would finally be breaking a pattern that started with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in 2022. Since then, the Flip line has stayed at 25W while competitors kept moving.

Samsung has said nothing publicly yet, which is the least surprising part of the whole story. The company usually lets Unpacked do the talking, and this one is expected to land on July 22.

Why 45W would matter for Samsung’s flip phone

If the 25W figure holds, the Z Flip 8 would mark five straight generations without a charging-speed bump. That would look especially dated because the rumored battery capacity is also unchanged at 4,300mAh, the same as the Flip 7. Faster charging would not fix everything, but it would at least stop Samsung’s smallest foldable from looking like an endurance holdout in a category built on convenience.

Samsung’s own lineup makes the problem more obvious. The Galaxy S26 Ultra was bumped from 45W to 60W this year, while the Fold family is already rumored to get the faster 45W tier. If that happens, the Flip becomes the odd one out inside Samsung’s premium portfolio, which is never a flattering place to sit.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 against Motorola’s Razr lineup

There is also a plain old comparison here. Motorola’s Razr Plus already offers 45W charging at a lower price, and the base Razr does 30W. That makes Samsung’s current 25W approach feel less like caution and more like stubbornness.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 8 rumor: 45W wired charging
  • Certification filings: 25W wired charging
  • Rumored battery: 4,300mAh
  • Galaxy Z Flip 4 through Galaxy Z Flip 7: 25W charging stayed put

If Samsung does finally move the Flip to 45W, it will be one of the few genuinely useful upgrades in what otherwise sounds like a modest refresh. If not, expect the charging complaint to keep following the Flip series like a bad app notification.
