Asus has expanded its Chromebook lineup in India with three new models aimed at students and young professionals who want a lighter, cheaper way into cloud-first computing. The pitch is straightforward: ChromeOS, Google’s AI tools, long battery life on the non-detachable models, and pricing that starts at Rs 26,990.
The timing makes sense. Premium laptops keep getting smarter and pricier, while Chromebooks continue to occupy the budget lane with fewer local apps and more web dependence. Asus is leaning into that trade-off rather than pretending otherwise, and the result is a lineup that is easy to understand at a glance.
Chromebook CM32 Detachable leads the range
The most interesting model is the Chromebook CM32 Detachable, which is built to work as both a laptop and a tablet. It weighs around 640 grams, includes a 2.5K touchscreen, a detachable keyboard, a magnetic stand, and support for the ASUS Pen.
Asus has also given it a metallic chassis, Corning Gorilla Glass protection, and military-grade durability certifications. That combination is aimed at buyers who want something portable without feeling like one careless backpack toss will end the whole story.
Asus Chromebook CM14 and CM15 target everyday laptop buyers
The Chromebook CM14 and Chromebook CM15 are the more familiar options here, with 14-inch and 15-inch displays, respectively. Both use MediaTek Kompanio 540 processors and are claimed to deliver up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge.
They also come with narrow-bezel displays and a 180-degree lay-flat hinge, which is the kind of practical feature list that actually matters in classrooms, video calls, and shared workspaces. If you are buying a Chromebook for all-day use rather than bragging rights, these are the models Asus clearly wants you to notice.
- Chromebook CM14: from Rs 26,990
- Chromebook CM15: from Rs 28,990
- Chromebook CM32 Detachable: from Rs 37,990
Google AI Pro and 5TB storage are bundled in
Across the lineup, ChromeOS gives buyers access to Google’s cloud-based ecosystem and AI experiences. Asus is also bundling Google AI Pro benefits and 5TB of cloud storage for three months, which should make the first few months feel more generous than the average budget laptop launch.
The broader move fits a familiar pattern: Chromebook makers are now selling software perks as aggressively as hardware specs. That is smart, because the hardware battle at this price point is mostly about compromises, not miracles.
Where to buy the new Asus Chromebooks
The new models are already on sale in India through Amazon and the ASUS eShop. Asus is also offering No Cost EMI through its ASUS Easy Pay programme, which should help push the CM14 and CM15 in particular, since those two sit in the part of the market where monthly payment plans often matter more than processor names.
The bigger question is whether AI branding will sway Chromebook buyers at this level, or whether battery life, display size, and price will keep doing the heavy lifting. My bet: the latter wins, because students rarely buy a laptop for the marketing slide.
