Samsung has started rolling out its May security update for the Galaxy S24 family, with the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra now receiving a 448 MB One UI 8.5 package. The first wave is landing in South Korea, and other regions should follow in the usual staggered Samsung fashion, which is polite code for ”not all at once”.
This is the first update after the stable One UI 8.5 launch, and the focus is exactly what you would expect from a fresh platform release: fewer bugs, better stability, and fewer little annoyances pretending to be features. Samsung is also bundling the Android 16 security patch, so this is both a maintenance release and a security fix.
Galaxy S24 build numbers and file size
According to Tarun Vats, the firmware build numbers are 928NKSS6DZE1, S928NOKR6DZE1 and S928NKSS6DZE1. The update weighs in at 448 MB, which is big enough to suggest more than a couple of tiny patch notes, but still squarely in the ”install it and move on” category.
- Devices: Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Update: May security release for One UI 8.5
- Patch: Android 16 security patch
- File size: 448 MB
What Samsung is fixing first
Samsung says the firmware is aimed at stability and bug fixes, including issues that surfaced in the original release, dark mode glitches and general system optimisation. That lines up with the usual post-launch cleanup cycle: ship the new software, then spend the next update calming it down. The company is not alone here; Galaxy S23, A-series and other models are also getting similar May updates, which suggests Samsung is pushing the same security cadence across most of its lineup.
South Korea gets it first
The rollout starting in South Korea is standard Samsung behavior, but it also hints that the update has cleared internal testing and is now moving outward. For Galaxy S24 owners elsewhere, the practical question is not whether the patch is coming, but how long the delay will be before it reaches their region. If Samsung keeps the current pace, the rest of the rollout should not take long.
