The electric pickup startup Slate has teamed up with iconic crayon maker Crayola to offer a series of bold, branded vehicle wraps. Instead of the usual gray or black finish, buyers can choose from five vibrant colors inspired by Crayola’s classic crayons and markers. For the young company, this is a way to make its minimalist truck stand out visually without altering its basic design.
The palette includes Cerulean, Dandelion, Fern, Razzmatazz, and Jersey Tomato-colors that reflect Crayola’s playful identity. Slate has emphasized customization since the start, designing the truck’s body specifically to accommodate wraps. This new offering extends that approach: each wrap kit also comes with a decorative key fob cover, a small clip-on ”Slatelet” badge for the dashboard, and a set of stickers.
To get this color treatment, customers first put down a $300 deposit on the truck, then pick their preferred hue through Slate’s online marketplace. The wrap package costs $1,550-relatively affordable compared to competitors. For example, Tesla’s official vehicle wrap service in the US typically runs significantly higher. Slate seems determined to maintain its image as an accessible electric vehicle brand-even in its accessories.
While the electric pickup segment remains niche, customization options like these help newcomers like Slate carve out distinct identities. As mainstream automakers increasingly offer DIY styling and personalization, the question is whether these playful collaborations will catch on beyond early adopters or remain a quirky footnote in EV culture.
