Japanese company SourceNext has launched DIGI+, a 14-inch dual portable monitor that clips onto the back of your laptop to instantly create a triple-screen setup. Designed for laptops with 13 to 16-inch displays, the foldable accessory swings out two additional screens without any hardware modifications. After a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised over 13 million yen (~$95,000), DIGI+ is now available at retail for $247.

The concept isn’t new, but it addresses a common pain point: one screen just isn’t enough for multitasking anymore. Whether juggling spreadsheets, chats, browsers, and multiple documents, users increasingly crave extra screen real estate on the go. Portable monitors have been a growing segment for years; global shipments have topped 100 million units annually, according to market analysts, fueled by hybrid work trends that blur lines between desks and backpacks.

DIGI+ targets mobile professionals who need more than a single external screen but want a more compact solution than lugging around two separate monitors and stands. Instead of setting up extra displays on a desk, these dual 14-inch IPS panels flip out from a folding frame mounted behind the laptop, making it easier to show content directly to nearby colleagues or clients without juggling multiple devices.

SourceNext DIGI+ specifications and features

  • Two 14.1-inch IPS displays
  • Each screen offers 1920 × 1080 resolution
  • Compatible with laptops sized 13 to 16 inches
  • Left display rotates up to 330 degrees
  • Right display rotates up to 270 degrees
  • Connections: 2× USB Type-C and Mini HDMI
  • Folded dimensions: 383 × 219 × 35.5 mm
  • Weight: approximately 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs)

To keep the setup stable when both screens are unfolded, SourceNext added a sturdy rear support stand that can tilt up to 180 degrees, preventing the laptop from tipping backward. This simple but critical feature addresses a common weak point in similar devices, which often struggle with balance once extra panels extend.

DIGI+ also has a clear use case for presentations and collaborative work: the side panels can be flipped outward so one screen faces the laptop user while the other faces someone on the opposite side of the table. This dual-screen design differentiates it from rivals like Mobile Pixels Trio and Duex, which add just one display without the need for docking stations.

Pricing at $247 puts DIGI+ in a competitive spot. Single portable monitors in the 14-15.6-inch range from well-known brands typically cost between $120 and $250. Meanwhile, specialized attachable multi-screen solutions often exceed $300 depending on design and features. SourceNext appears to be capitalizing on rising demand fueled by hybrid work models that turn the office into a portable setup.

But the trade-off is clear: at roughly 1.6 kg, DIGI+ weighs about as much as a slim ultrabook. This means it’s probably not ideal for casual café sessions lasting just a few minutes between meetings but rather suits users who set up a temporary workstation during longer stints at coworking spaces, business trips, or events. If it proves compatible across a broad range of laptops and balances weight with usability well, DIGI+ could carve out a unique niche alongside docks and standard portable monitors.
