Slitherine has taken over the Warhammer Blood Bowl license from Nacon and will continue the next Blood Bowl game with Cyanide Studio, the longtime developer behind the series. British publisher Slitherine, best known for Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, says the move keeps the franchise on track after Nacon’s financial pressure raised questions about its games catalogue.

The new Warhammer Blood Bowl game is based on Blood Bowl 3, released in 2023, but is said to expand the experience rather than simply recycle it. It had been expected this spring on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, plus PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, though development has dragged on.

Slitherine keeps Blood Bowl in play

Slitherine says the franchise will continue in partnership with Cyanide, which has been the constant name attached to Blood Bowl across the series. That continuity matters more than a flashy reboot would, because this is not a brand that needs reinvention so much as competent rule handling, steady support, and a publisher that understands strategy players can be picky to the point of being medieval.

Cyanide publicly framed the deal as a way to secure Blood Bowl’s future, while Slitherine described it as one of the most distinctive strategy brands in games. Both sides are selling the same idea: keep the identity, avoid the chaos.

What happens to the new Blood Bowl game

  • New publisher: Slitherine
  • Developer: Cyanide Studio
  • Base game: Blood Bowl 3
  • Platforms mentioned: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S

Slitherine will share more details on 22 July during its Slitherine Next presentation, streamed at 19:00 Moscow time on Twitch. The sensible bet is that the company will lean hard on stability and fan service; the risky bet would be trying to make Blood Bowl feel broader than it is. This series has always worked best as a brutal little cult item, not a mass-market makeover.
