Oppo has started warming up the Reno 16 series with its first teaser, and pre-orders are already open in China. The Oppo Reno 16 series is set to arrive in May, taking over from the Reno 15 lineup, while global buyers may have to wait a bit longer as Oppo pushes the Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s into more markets first.

What Oppo has shown so far

The teaser itself is doing the usual pre-launch job: confirming the name, confirming the timing, and avoiding saying anything useful. That said, the early pre-order push suggests Oppo wants the Reno 16 series to have a cleaner runway in China, even if the broader international rollout slips into a later window.

That delay would not be surprising. Oppo, like several of its Chinese rivals, tends to stagger launches by region to avoid cannibalizing higher-end devices and to keep marketing focused on a narrow set of models at a time.

Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro rumored specs

Leaks have already filled in a decent amount of the picture. The standard Reno 16 is tipped to be the smaller model, with a 6.32-inch display, while the Reno 16 Pro is said to use a 6.78-inch OLED LTPO panel with 1.5K resolution. Both phones are expected to stick with flat displays and very slim bezels, which is basically the current premium midrange checklist.

  • Reno 16: 6.32-inch display, Dimensity 8500
  • Reno 16 Pro: 6.78-inch OLED LTPO screen, 1.5K resolution, Dimensity 9500s
  • ColorOS 16.1 based on Android 16
  • Pro battery: around 7,000mAh

Reno 16 Pro camera and storage options

The Reno 16 Pro is also rumored to get the more aggressive camera package, headlined by a 200-megapixel main sensor, plus an ultra-wide camera and a periscope telephoto lens. The standard model does not have confirmed camera details yet, but reports suggest Oppo may reuse the same overall setup with different sensors. That would be a sensible shortcut in a category where buyers love the spec sheet almost as much as the photos.

Storage options for the Pro variant are expected to be broad:

  • 12GB+256GB
  • 12GB+512GB
  • 16GB+256GB
  • 16GB+512GB
  • 16GB+1TB

Reported color choices include white, black, purple, and green, though nothing has been said yet about the base model’s configurations or finishes.

Global launch could slide to July

If Oppo keeps its current cadence, the Reno 16 series could show up globally around July. That would put it in the usual awkward spot for a China-first phone: fresh enough to interest shoppers, but late enough that rivals may already have moved on with their own refreshes.

For now, the big question is whether Oppo will keep the series tightly China-focused at first or widen the gap between the domestic debut and the international release. Given how it is prioritizing other flagship launches, the answer looks pretty clear.
