Maria ”Lady Melamori” Davydova teamed up with photographer Sofia Chatskaya to dive back into the retro-futuristic Soviet Union of Mundfish’s Atomic Heart. This time, she embodies the eerie Twin Dolls-silent ballerina assassins and iconic bosses from the game.

Who are the Twin Dolls in Atomic Heart?

The Twin Dolls-Left and Right-are robotic ballerinas outfitted with theatrical exoskeletons enhanced to serve as personal bodyguards for Dmitry Sechenov, director of Research Institute 3826. Their backstory reveals that their design incorporates the brain of Ekaterina Nechaeva, the protagonist’s wife, making the boss fight with them a deeply emotional highlight of the game.

Their design is all contrast: the delicate grace of ballet paired with a lethal combat machine’s body. Their heads are adorned with braids shaped like a traditional Soviet wedding bread loaf (karavai), while a red star-shaped compartment on their forehead houses a golden horn made of tapering metallic wires. Their swimsuits, featuring a slim central slit, mirror the open polymer cavity in their abdomen. The body material seems to be a blend of polymer, iron, and gold.

In combat, the Twin Dolls move in perfect sync-fluid motions, mirrored attacks, and an utterly surreal atmosphere. Their boss fight quickly became one of the most talked-about moments in Atomic Heart-not just for its toughness, but for its striking choreography and visual flair.

Twin Dolls as Atomic Heart’s iconic cosplay inspiration

The Twin Dolls became the face of Atomic Heart even before the game launched. After the first trailers, players online immediately dubbed them ”robots from a Soviet ballet” and ”the most surprising boss of the year.” Mundfish nailed it-their look stands strong even if you haven’t played the game.

Their design cleverly fuses Soviet constructivism, ballet theater aesthetics, and sci-fi brutality. This distinct combo makes them perfect for cosplay: instantly recognizable silhouette, intricate details, and a character that’s both elegant and menacing.

Atomic Heart updates and future developments

At Summer Game Fest 2025, Mundfish announced Atomic Heart 2, though the release date remains under wraps. In April 2026, the fourth DLC titled ”Blood on the Crystal” launched, wrapping up the story of the first game. With the universe expanding steadily, fan interest in its dark, stylish characters like the Twin Dolls continues to build.
